Ways to Support Our Local Business During COVID-19

A few weeks ago (oh how things have changed since!), I woke up at 4:30am and couldn’t go back to sleep. I was worrying about my business, my team at the salon, the Babe Hair team who I love, all of the hairstylists, our clients, family, friends and most of all my intimate family.

After being on the phone from 10am - 5pm rescheduling appointments, I realized a couple of things and somehow with all the stress, I got the brunt of people's frustration. I literally cried a couple of times with the way I was treated. So, we must remember not to take it personally; some people are very myopic. Look up, not down or back, and this too shall pass.

I started as a salon receptionist super early in life because my mom was a hairstylist. From there, I  continued on to where I am today. Dealing with so many different personalities in dance; modeling; pageants and directing them; salons; and so much more, the most amazing thing is to know how to walk away from a situation or hit it head on.

This is something you can’t walk away from. I have worked my ass of these past few years building a brand and the salon; and I'm a survivor. That being said, my family and dogs are safe. My friends - the close ones and the ones I have built through the years are fine - and even though this is about to get super tough, we will push through.

I can doubt myself everyday, but at the end of the end of the day, I will push through. We will push through. Our anxiety will be heightened, but we will push through. Everyone is struggling right now, but we will push through.

In the meantime, here are some ways to support local businesses like mine during this difficult  time:

1. Write a nice review on social sites.

Word of mouth is literally the best way new clients find us. Whether it's telling friends in person or writing reviews on Yelp, Google, or Facebook, your recommendation helps spread our brand and get new fabulous clients like Y-O-U! Try to post pics (if you'll let us use them on social and our website!). And if you're one of our brides, let The Knot know how we did!

2. Purchase gift certificates for a friend or yourself.

If your appointment has had to be pushed back, buy a gift certificate to help keep money flowing in the salon. You'd spend it anyway, right? Or think about multiple gift cards in smaller quantities to give out to friends throughout the year. We'll snail mail them to you!

3. Stock up on products as soon as you can.

Right now, get 20% off all in-stock retail products. From Kevin Murphy and Living Proof to Aria Beauty tools to The Perfect Face Cosmetics, call to place your order. We'll get it ready, schedule a pick-up time, and run it out to you when you arrive!

4. Pre-book future appointments.

Granted, you must be flexible as timelines continue to shift. But get your appointment on the books so your hair will look fab-oo once this craziness is over.

5. Like, share, and comment on your stylist and salon's social.

Now more than ever, we want to connect with clients! You'll get tips and tricks - like cutting your kiddo's hair at home - plus videos, how-tos, blogs, and important updates. Follow us at @janellealexissalon and our owner Janelle @houstonhairbabe. And, let us know what how-to's your interested in us filming.

Call 713.789.2412 for bookings, products  & gift cards.

Stay safe! XO!
